Trip to the Kluge Center!

Last Friday, the CFI Forum took a trip to the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress.  Ms. Mary Lou Reker from the Office of Scholarly Programs generously and assisted students with their reader registration, led a private tour of the Kluge Center, and presented the various research and fellowship opportunities available at the LOC.

Established in 2000, the Kluge Center is a hidden gem for Georgetown students who not only delight in research, but also have a passion for public service.  The Kluge Center does a tremendous job in fostering a relationship between scholars and political leaders as it attracts the best available minds from around the world to our nation’s capital.

VP Dao and John Micevych are two of the many Carroll Fellows that served as a research assistants to the Kluge Fellows.  VP Dao is currently working with Morton Kondracke, a prominent political journalist and the Jack Kemp Chair of Political Economy.  Assisting with biographical research on Jack Kemp, VP works independently on various assignments given to him by Mr. Kondracke.  More importantly, he states that “working at the Kluge Center was, and still is, a fantastic opportunity.”  Not only does the assistantship fill his spare time, but it also affords him the chance to engage in conversation about current events in politics and international affairs.

John Micevych assisted Visiting Scholar Ilaria Andreoli with her work on transnational diffusion of print-making techniques in 16th and 17th century Europe.  He chose to be a research assistant because of the “opportunity it presented to become familiar with the research process and resources at the Library of Congress.”  John assisted Ilaria Andreoli by analyzing English-based sources and taking care of technological concerns.

Leaving the trip with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and zeal, members of the Forum plan to exhaust all research opportunities at the Library of Congress.
