GOFAR Staff

MEET OUR OFFICE

John Glavin is a Professor of English, Director of the Office of Fellowships, Awards and Research for Undergraduates, and University Fellowship Secretary. He has been a member of the Georgetown faculty since 1967.

A Victorianist and a playwright, he focuses on issues of adaptation, particularly of earlier work in the nineteenth century and of nineteenth-century texts to the contemporary stage and screen. He teaches courses in writing for the stage and screen.  Within GOFAR he directly oversees the Carroll Fellows Initiative, Georgetown's flagship program for its most academically talented and ambitious undergraduates, and also serves as the University's Fellowhips & Awards Secretary.  He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. from Bryn Mawr College, and B.A. from Georgetown University.

Lauren Tuckley joined the Office of Fellowships, Awards, and Research for Undergraduates in August 2011. As the Associate Director, Ms. Tuckley is responsible for the department's major administrative and financial functions. She also oversees the day to day operations of the Fellowships Office in identifying, recruiting, training, and mentoring highly motivated and accomplished students applying to competitive national and international fellowships.

Ms. Tuckley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Midwestern State University in her hometown of Wichita Falls, TX. As part of her undergraduate degree, she studied abroad in London, where her research centered on class structure in the formation of cultural identity in the U.K. Ever the anglophile, Ms. Tuckley soon returned to London to pursue a certificate in existential psychotherapy from The New School in collaboration with the University of Sheffield. Ms. Tuckley earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies at Georgetown, her thesis focusing on how social stratification impacts the national collegiate undergraduate attrition rate. In her spare time, Ms. Tuckley enjoys running, reading, cooking, and spoiling her rescue dachshund, Sadie.

Laura Wagstaff has served as the Assistant Director in Georgetown's Office of Fellowships, Awards, and Research for Undergraduates since October 2012.  In this role, she is primarily responsible for administering the Carroll Fellows Initiative, Georgetown's flagship opportunity for its most academically talented and ambitious undergraduates.  Ms. Wagstaff also provides support for undergraduates interested in pursuing independent and/or mentored research opportunities through information sessions, one-on-one meetings, and collaboration with the Undergraduate Research Ambassadors.

Ms. Wagstaff graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The College of William and Mary with a major in French & Francophone Studies and a minor in music. While at W&M, she studied abroad in Lyon and conducted independent research on the cultural history of the pipe organ in eighteenth-century Paris at the Bibliothèque nationale de France.  Ms. Wagstaff is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in International Affairs through Georgetown's School of Continuing Studies.  When she's not at Georgetown, Ms. Wagstaff enjoys playing the pipe organ, studying yoga, and exploring DC's performing arts organizations.

Cassandra Lee Saenz joined the Office of Fellowships, Awards, and Research in June 2012 as the Programs Manager. Primarily responsible for office event planning and coordinating, she also works closely with the Carroll Fellows Initiative.

Ms. Saenz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown where she majored in International History. Her regional interest is Latin America where she studies a wide-range of topics from the history of native peoples to current government and policy issues. During her time as an undergraduate she coordinated Reventón Latino, Georgetown’s annual Latin dance showcase, and Welcome Week, the university’s large-scale campus programming to welcome new and returning students, staff, and faculty. Ms. Saenz is excited to begin the Center of Latin American Studies’ Master of Arts program in the fall, and ready to explore the realm of graduate education.

In her spare time, Ms. Saenz enjoys reading historically-based books and novels, exercising and jogging, and visiting monuments and museums.
